Dr. Myron Rolle Joins NFLPA to Focus on Player Health, Brain Cognition and Preventive Care

Former NFL safety, Rhodes Scholar and neurosurgeon Myron Rolle is bringing his unique blend of football experience, medical expertise and research leadership to the National Football League Players Association.

The NFLPA announced that Dr. Rolle has joined the organization in a strategic advisory role focused on advancing player health, brain cognition and preventive care throughout the athlete lifecycle.

Rolle will contribute his clinical knowledge and research background to several key initiatives, including the Mackey-White Health and Safety Committee, which works to address critical issues impacting current and former NFL players.

“Dr. Rolle’s perspective is unlike anyone else’s,” the NFLPA emphasized, highlighting his rare journey from elite football player to medical professional and researcher.

Before beginning his medical career, Rolle was a standout safety at Florida State University and was considered one of the top defensive prospects in college football. Despite his NFL aspirations, he delayed his professional football career to become a Rhodes Scholar at University of Oxford, where he studied medical sciences.

Rolle later earned his medical degree from Florida State University College of Medicine and became a neurosurgeon, combining his passion for athletics with brain health research.

During his NFL career, Rolle played for the Tennessee Titans and Pittsburgh Steelers, appearing in regular-season games while continuing his medical education.

His new role with the NFLPA comes as player health, concussion prevention, cognitive performance and long-term wellness remain among the league’s most important issues.

With firsthand experience as both an NFL athlete and a physician, Rolle is positioned to provide a rare perspective on protecting players’ careers and quality of life beyond football.
